Princess's Story Meet Princess, an amazing sixteen year old living in Liberia, Africa. Princess is currently in 6th grade. The typical age for a sixth grader in America is between 11 and 12 years old. Princess is a bright and wonderful young lady. So why is she 16 and in 6th grade? Great question!
Unfortunately, it is common for a student's age not to match their grade level. In Liberia, everyone pays for education, even for public education. When people only make $2.00 per day on average, affording school is impossible. Students go to school when their families can afford it, and if they can't afford to go, they stay home and work. Princess's family deeply desires for her to get an education, so when they can afford to send her, they send her. This is why Princess is 16 and in the 6th grade.
It is not uncommon to see students that are in their twenties still in high school. Princess will be in her twenties before she graduates. This creates a major set back for many students. Many deeply desire to attend college, which sadly becomes a dream never realized, as many are forced to work to survive, remaining in poverty. However, Princess is now rewriting her story. The new storyline... love was freely given and in turn hope was renewed and health was restored.
Thanks to our partners, Princess is attending school full time and doesn't have to worry about missing a year of school, anymore. When Princess graduates high school, she will attend college, and upon graduation she will be able to break the chains of poverty. This is not just impacting her life, but also the lives of her future children and grandchildren. This also impacts her community, the ripple affect continuing to move in every direction. When you partner with His Will Not Mine, your reoccurring donation changes the story line, not just for Princess, but for so many more, even you! There is an abundance of children just like Princess, desperately in need of your love.
His Will Not Mine helps both students that attend our own schools and students that attend other schools. Not all students live near one of our schools, but they still need assistance. Some students only need partial assistance, while others receive full assistance. We thank God for our local pastors and church families who assist us in helping these students. Students that are sponsored that do not attend our school are partnered with a local church that works with His Will Not Mine. The local church will give oversight to the students, making sure that they are both physically and spiritually being fed.
Our mission is to enroll between 420-540 students from p-k to 12th grade per school. We pray that God will allow us to have multiple schools in Liberia. Students will be safely housed in a dormitory, based on ages/grades. Students will receive a nutritious breakfast, lunch, and dinner, so they can acquire the proper nutrition for a healthy mind, body, and soul. Students will receive the best education they could possibly be given, both academically and biblically. Administrators, teachers, missionaries, and pastors live on the campus to give oversight to these students. We also engage in teaching students and providing professional development to teachers via the internet. Our goal is to give these students an exceptional education, with the biblical foundation that prepares them with the tools needed to transform their country.
Our goal is to lay a solid foundation starting in the elementary grades. Students will gain the academic and spiritual tools necessary to build a solid foundation for superior growth in the years to come. Everyone in Liberia pays to get an education even in the public schools. Life is extremely difficult. If a family cannot afford to send a child to school, that child will begin working at an early age. Many children have been abandoned or come from broken homes. They are usually left with their mother who struggles greatly to even put food in her children's belly. In addition, many schools in Liberia are corrupt. Sometimes teachers just don't show up to teach in public schools. Many times, schools are seen as a way to make a profit and education is secondary to the business. Many teachers are given teaching certificates, even though they have just graduated high school themselves, and do not have the proper education. Many graduates from high school cannot read or write proficiently. Many students are nutrient deficient which has affected their brain development. All of these challenges and more significantly reduce the child's chance to climb out of extreme poverty. Many children truly desire to know about God, unfortunately many are being taught lies. Even if they can read, many cannot comprehend what the word of God says. It is vital that these children are given the opportunity to grow. These children need wisdom, critical thinking skills, and the ability to think logically. With your help as a partner, you can directly impact a child's life. In addition, you are not just impacting one child's life, you are impacting an entire community.
With a focus on both academic and biblical education, students are empowered to rise above all odds. By the grace of God, may these students rise up as faithful servants of God and may their lives give testimony to the power of God, for His glory. Our prayer is that God will bring a revival and transform a nation through these students.
